En legende, født i Toronto, Canada, fyller 80 år 12. november 2025, nemlig Neil Percival Young. Jeg oppdaget Neil da han ble «til og fra» medlem i Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Han var også medlem i Buffalo Springfield (1966-1968) sammen med Stephen Stills. Etter CSN&Y ble det mye solo for godeste Neil, ofte sammen med gode venner i musikkverdenen. Neil Young er en av de mest produktive artistene sammen med Bob Dylan.

Musikken hans spenner fra akustisk folk og country til tung elektrisk rock, ofte preget av politiske og personlige tekster. Album som After the Gold Rush (1970), Harvest (1972) og Rust Never Sleeps (1979) regnes utvilsomt som klassikere.

Jeg er veldig svak for Neil når han er i det melankolske hjørne, noe som også gjenspeiler låtene jeg har valgt fra album opp igjennom karrieren hans. En stor favoritt er låten Love and War fra albumet Le Noise (2010), en fantastisk låt, så hør ihvertfall på den. Blowin' in the Wind måtte også med fra live-albumet Weld. Det har blitt tre volum med musikk fra Neil. 😎

Young er også kjent for sitt engasjement for miljøsaker, urfolks rettigheter og uavhengighet i musikkbransjen. Hans særegne stemme, ærlige uttrykk og kompromissløse holdning har gjort ham til en legende i moderne musikkhistorie.

Da er det bare å gratulere med de 80 og takke for all den flotte musikken hittil.
