En av vår tids store låtskrivere, John Prine, måtte den 7. april gi tapt for Covid-19. Trist dag for mange musikkelskere. John Prine var høyt verdsatt blant artistkollegaer som Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Nanci Griffith, Emmylou Harris osv. Roger Waters ble i 2008 spurt om han kunne høre Pink Floyd påvirkning i nyere britiske band som f.eks. Radiohead og hvor Waters svarer "I don't really listen to Radiohead. I listened to the albums and they just did'nt move me in the way, say, John Prine does. Just extraordinarily eloquent music - and he lives on that plane with Neil Young and Lennon."
Ikke bare låtskriver. John Prine ga ut en rekke flotte album i løpet av sin karriere som artist. Han debuterte i 1971 med albumet John Prine på Atlantic Records, og hans siste album The Tree Of Forgivness kom ut i 2018.
